We invite you to share your insights and knowledge with colleagues as a presenter of an educational session at our Summer Leadership Institute.

What is Summer Leadership Institute?

In response to the current situation, and the desire of leaders in our field to continue their professional connections and development, the Summer Leadership Institute will be taking place virtually this year.

This professional development event is designed especially for those that currently hold a leadership position (directors, supervisors, managers, assistant directors), those that aspire to a leadership position (teachers and other professionals), and those that support leaders and leadership (coaches, trainers and consultants) to examine and deepen their knowledge, skills and abilities in topics relevant to leadership.

Sessions will be 1.5 hours in length. All sessions will be prerecorded. 

Participants appreciate topics that are practical, relevant and timely, including strategies and tips that can be implemented right away.

What is this year's theme?

This year's theme is The Importance of Connecting . Before the pandemic, directors, managers, supervisors and administrators carried a heavy load of work and responsibility and were faced with many critical decisions every day. The pandemic has exacerbated this heavy load. Many are trying to keep their program doors open, counseling their staff, keeping children and families engaged, working from home and supporting their own families. This is a lot. This is hard because it's hard. But it's made easier when we connect with others.

Topics of interest include:

  • Those relevant to the work of direct service staff
  • Those relevant to directors, managers, supervisors and administrators
  • Those relevant to trainers, coaches and consultants
  • Those related to growth, quality assurance and program administration
  • Those related to self-care (health & wellness)
  • Other

When choosing a topic/session to submit, please consider how it would play out in a prerecorded fashion.

We are committed to creating a diverse, safe and welcoming space for participants to learn and share. We want to make sure we receive session proposals from the widest audience possible, including from you! All proposals are welcome and will be considered. We will give special attention to those that incorporate the theme of the event.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, June 5, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Accepted sessions will be notified by Friday, June 12, 2020.

Please pay close attention to your description so participants have an accurate feel for the session content. Please write your description in the third person.



1. Presenters are responsible for providing electronic handouts and resource materials to MnAEYC-MnSACA prior to the event launch, which will be shared with all registered individuals. Sharing a PDF copy of the PowerPoint presentation is optional.

2. All correspondence will be via email with Presenter 1.

3. Presentations are not to be used as an opportunity to “showcase” or “sell” business, services or products in any way.

4. We value your time and expertise and understand that when you present at the Summer Leadership Institute, you are sharing more than your knowledge. For that reason, a $75 honorarium per session will be provided. We will also waive the registration fee for each presenter (Regular Summer Leadership Institute Experience only; the add-on option will be $50 for any presenter who would like to take advantage of extended access and additional training content/inservice hours). This entitles each presenter the option to attend sessions and earn professional development credits.

5. Institute sessions will be prerecorded between June 29 and July 17. I understand that my session will need to be ready by then. If selected, a MnAEYC-MnSACA staff person will be in contact to arrange a time to record your session.

6. Session content will be available to registered individuals for 14 days.

7. We will be setting up a private Facebook page for Summer Leadership Institute registrants. Our expectation is that you will monitor your session thread for the period of time recordings are available (July 30-August 12).

8. Confirmation notifications with logistical information will be emailed by June 12.
