At the January 2018 Policy Hour, we made a special announcement renaming the event in honor of our friend and colleague, Ann Kaner-Roth. You can read more about the tribute on our Facebook page.

Minnesota's Future now hosts Policy Hour, a monthly opportunity for early childhood and school-age care professionals to connect with each other and learn about current policy issues in an informal setting.

Policy Hour is held the first Tuesday of each month, October 2017-June 2018, from Noon-1:00 p.m. at Think Small (2021 East Hennepin Avenue | Suite LL20, Minneapolis, MN 55413). Except for January, which will be held the second Tuesday on January 9.

December 4, 2018

Join us on Tuesday, December 4 as we explore how to "Mix It Up: Creating Synergy in a Diverse Delivery System." Guests will talk about a mixed delivery system for the state's youngest children. What does mixed delivery Pre-K mean? What does it look like in Minnesota? What are other states doing? Presenters will tackle these questions, and then we'll have time for discussion. This special edition Ann Kaner-Roth Policy Hour will be 90 minutes long (12:00-1:30 p.m.), with an extended opportunity to hear your ideas and questions on the topic.

November 6, 2018

Join us on Tuesday, November 6 (Election Day!) for Ann Kaner-Roth Policy Hour and hear from Katy Smith, Licensed Parent Educator & 2011 MN Teacher of the Year, in an engaging community conversation about play. In just one generation, children have lost a full eight hours a week of play, and it shows. Children are experiencing a decline in mental health and are struggling to manage their behaviors in and away from school settings. Let's talk about what has happened to play and how we can advocate for the right to play in childhood. Katy will be joined by Dr. Lori Erickson, Assistant Director, Office of Early Learning, St. Paul Public Schools and Heather Starks, President of the Minnesota PTA.

October 2, 2018

Join us for the first Ann Kaner-Roth Policy Hour of the season! Guests from the field will provide updates about “What We Did Over Summer Vacation.”

Kelly Monson, Executive Director of the Minnesota Children’s Cabinet, will share about the Systems Reform Project, support from BUILD, and the plans for transition to a new Governor and administration. Consultant Laura LaCroix-Dalluhn will bring us up to speed on the work of a new Prenatal to Three Policy Initiative group. We hope to have time for a few more brief updates—bring your ECE summer story if you have one.
