Accreditation Coach Position Summary

Coaches play a crucial role in the accreditation process through observing program practices, providing feedback that guides programs toward improvement efforts, and supporting programs toward successful completion of their accreditation journey.

Effective coaches foster and encourage a positive team-driven approach to problem solving and maintaining quality programming.

Programs seeking accreditation are responsible for hiring and providing compensation for their own coach, as well as setting up expectations between both parties. MnSACA does not take part in the relationship between the coach and program, other than facilitating the initial connection between the two. 

MAAP Coach Professional Development Package

We are excited to offer a professional development package for coaches that will provide trainings and networking opportunities all year long. These opportunities will ensure the continuous growth of coaches, allowing them to feel more confident about interpreting MAAP Indicators & the accreditation process, and coaching programs through both of these things. The Coach Package fee of $300 (member rates apply - paid when registering for the two-day training) will cover the following benefits throughout the 2018-2019 school year:

Two-day Coaches Training on September 26 & 27, 2018 (lunch included)

*Long distance training options available if needed

Learn what skill sets make for good coaching, what documentation coaches should be familiar with, what a program expects from an effective coach, and more. The training will include two panel discussions (one with Validators & one with site leaders of programs that are going through or have gone through accreditation), round table small group discussions, and a site visit where we will practice using the MAAP Self-Study Observation Tool.

A list of individuals who have attended the 2-day coaches training with MnSACA within the last two years will be shared with programs currently going through accreditation. While they may choose anyone they wish to be their coach, it is highly recommended that they select someone on this list. Small updates are always being made to MAAP, and programs will benefit most from a coach who is up-to-date on the most current set of Indicators and process elements. Likewise, coaches who know they have the latest information on these things will coach with more confidence.

One year's worth of Communities of Practice (COPs) - 5 total

Communities of Practice are facilitated networking groups where coaches come together to talk about successes & challenges. Conversation topics are generated through feedback from the group based on the current phase of the accreditation process and what is happening in the field. COPs are great touch points for coaches to make sure everyone is on the same page with how they are interpreting Indicators, talk through roadblocks they may be facing, and share how Indicators are being implemented to give everyone a bigger toolbox of ideas to in turn share with their programs.

Ongoing technical assistance

MnAEYC-MnSACA staff will be available as needed throughout the year to answer questions regarding MAAP (interpretations, suggestions for evidence, paperwork and materials, process). If an Indicator interpretation question comes up at one of your meetings, contact us! If your site is having computer trouble and isn't sure how to submit paperwork, we can help! We are unable to get involved in the relationship between programs and coaches (e.g., setting coaching fees, conflict resolution if it isn't a good fit, setting ground rules and expectations for coaching visits, etc.).

**Please note: Purchasing the Coach Package and attending the training and COPs does not guarantee you placement with a program. We provide programs with a list of people who have attended the training within the past two years, but it is up to them to choose the best fit for their site. There will not always be an equal ratio of coaches to programs going through the process in any given year. However, the skills you learn as a coach are applicable outside of MAAP, so can be used in your own program, and in other aspects of your professional position.

Coaching duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Attend a two-day MAAP Coaches Training on September 26 & 27, 2018. This training is part of a professional development package for coaches. Long distance training options are available if needed. See more information below.
  • Attend ongoing Communities of Practice (COP) facilitated by MnSACA throughout the year, where all coaches come together to clarify Indicators, problem solve, share ideas, etc.
  • Assist with the self-study process and establish clear goals based on MAAP Indicators for program improvement.
  • Ensure that the program leadership and staff understand the MAAP Indicators, expectations, and process.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for program improvement.
  • Guide the program in final steps of gathering and submitting documentation in preparation for the accreditation visit.
  • If invited, attend the Exit Interview between the Validator and site director the day of the accreditation visit.
  • Maintain communication with the program following the visit until they receive their accreditation decision.
  • Maintain confidentiality with any program information that is shared.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of afterschool programming & youth development.
  • Experience with MAAP or other quality improvement/accreditation systems.
  • Experience in facilitating organizational change and quality improvements.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent observational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of MS Office and Google.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel locally and/or regionally.

The deadline to register for the 2018 Coaches Training is Friday, September 21. Registration to this training also gives you access to the rest of the Coach Package items. All who are interested are welcome!
