Caring for Minnesota's Children

In 2011 Greater Twin Cities United Way partnered with the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children (MnAEYC) to launch the Childcare Accreditation Program (CAP) in an effort to improve the quality of childcare centers across the nine-county region.

Improving education is part of United Way’s core work. CAP has made a big difference to ensure that children are ready to learn and thrive when they begin kindergarten—building a strong foundation for long-term success in school and in life.

The Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children (MnAEYC) is a proud state affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our mission is to serve and act on behalf of early care and education professionals in Minnesota. We work to promote the highest level of quality programming by providing accreditation support. While there are many accrediting bodies that are recognized across the nation, we specialize in NAEYC Accreditation because it is the gold standard for early childhood programs across the country.

Since 1985, NAEYC's national accreditation system has set professional standards for early childhood education programs. Families of young children who attend NAEYC-accredited programs can be confident that they deliver the highest quality early care and education. Over 7,000 programs serving almost 600,000 children are accredited across the nation!

NAEYC-accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the benefits to children and families. Early childhood experiences—from birth to age 8—have an enormous impact on children’s lifelong learning and positively contribute to their health and development. Early childhood education programs with the mark of quality benefit children with greater readiness for and success in school.
