Courageous Connections: Every Heart Matters

This keynote will highlight the importance of owning flaws and prioritizing one’s own mental health in order to make more authentic connections with others. Ms. Holstine will reveal the roles that vulnerability and courageous connections have in creating equity for every heart. She will also reveal how working through her own personal struggles has helped her to become a better teacher and a healthier human being. She will additionally share how her personal journey of being a gender non-conforming, lesbian teacher has helped her to be an advocate for at-risk students.

Kelly Holstine has over 25 years of experience working with youth. She has worked in the fields of media, teambuilding, social work, and education. Holstine holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, a Communication Arts and Literature teaching license, and a Master of Arts in Education from Augsburg University. Holstine helped to design and open an Area Learning Center in Shakopee in 2012.  She was named Minnesota State Teacher of the Year in 2018.

Saturday Keynote: Karla Heeter

Get Happy! Get Healthy!

Happiness. Everybody wants it. We’re all chasing it. How we deal with stress, loss and tragedy, as well as the simple ups and downs of day-to-day life, has much to do with our happiness and ultimately our health and longevity. Karla will give you the tools to find and/or maintain your happiness and enhance your resilience. You can expect to be moved, inspired, humored and entertained.

Karla has spent most of her life serving people in both the public and private sector. She’s a humorous motivational speaker with a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Karla served six years as a Wright County Commissioner. At this time, she is the Executive Director for Buffalo Hospital Foundation, part of Allina Health.
