Afterschool programs play a critical role in keeping Minnesota's youth safe, helping working families and supporting learning. High-quality afterschool programs can have strong positive outcomes on youth's academic, social and emotional lives. Recent reviews of evaluations on well-run and effective afterschool programs showed that participation in quality programs improved youth feelings of self-confidence, self-esteem, attitudes toward school, school grades, and achievement test scores.

The Minnesota Afterschool Accreditation Program (MAAP) was developed based on the research of best practices in programs serving school-age youth.

Enrollment is open through Monday, September 30!

Program accreditation is the ultimate indication of program quality. MAAP encourages programs to reflect on and make improvements in five key areas of programming: administration, wellness, activities, relationships, and environments. It provides professionals with performance indicators and benchmarks of quality to guide program planning, implementation and evaluation. Accreditation also serves to guide families in making more informed choices about programming for their children. Moreover, the accreditation process supports a team approach to program improvement and fosters a competent, caring and qualified staff.

We invite you to learn more here about MAAP, the benefits of going through accreditation, and the updates that have been made this fall.

We look forward to working with your program on your continuous quality improvement journey!
