The state-approved Minnesota Afterschool Accreditation Program (MAAP) provides programs serving school-age youth (before or afterschool, summer programming, child care centers with a school-age room, family child care) with performance indicators to guide in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.

MAAP was developed by and is run by MnSACA, your trusted resource for quality and program improvement. Our mission of promoting quality programs and supporting the leadership and development of professionals is embedded in the MAAP tool. MAAP takes into consideration best practices in all areas of youth development and what it takes to run a high-quality program.

Over 60 programs in Minnesota are currently accredited through MAAP!

Going through the process of accreditation and earning this exceptional endorsement allows for programs to reflect on their policies & procedures, safety, curriculum, relationships and environment in order to make quality changes.

"I feel that the process is very valuable. It is always a good thing to see the strength of your program and also where we can improve ourselves, which is for the good of the children that we serve."

Coach a Program through Accreditation

We are excited to offer a professional development package for coaches that will provide trainings and networking opportunities all year long. Anyone is welcome to participate!

Coaches play a crucial role in the accreditation process through observing program practices, providing feedback that guides programs toward improvement efforts, and supporting programs toward successful completion of their accreditation journey. Effective coaches foster and encourage a positive team-driven approach to problem solving and maintaining quality programming.

Become a Coach Today

Whether you will be coaching programs in your district, your own program, or aren't yet connected to a program, MnSACA is here to help. Through our trainings and continued communities of practice, we will help you feel more confident in your abilities to interpret MAAP Indicators and guide programs through the accreditation process. We will also help to facilitate connections between coaches and programs as necessary.

While programs may choose anyone they wish to be their coach, it is extremely beneficial to both parties to use someone who has attended a recent coaches training and participates in ongoing networking groups with MnSACA. MnSACA will provide programs with a list of individuals who have attended the coaches training within the last two years.

This year's coaches training will be held on September 26 & 27 from 8:00-4:00 p.m. Long distance training options are available if needed.

The Coach Package fee of $300 covers close to 24 hours of professional development and networking (including the 2-day coaches training in September), as well as technical assistance. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 21.
